Danoosh Vahdat

Danoosh is the founder and CEO of Huma, a healthcare AI company with a mission to accelerate the adoption of digital and AI technologies across care and research. The company is often compared to Palantir, the major defense and data analytics firm, for its platform approach and national-scale impact. Huma is one of the few billion-dollar startups in digital health across all of Europe and is recognized for its global reach and the large-scale national contracts it has secured. The company gained international acclaim for its pivotal role during COVID-19, supporting AstraZeneca in vaccine development—ultimately impacting over 2 billion people worldwide.

Danoosh was born in Shiraz, Iran, and grew up in Bojnourd, where he attended the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents (Tizhooshan). He later earned his bachelor’s degree from Sharif University of Technology before being accepted into the direct doctoral program at Johns Hopkins University.He continued part of his research in biomedical engineering at the University of Oxford, but ultimately left academia to fully focus on building Huma. Danoosh is one of the very few Iranians to have founded a billion-dollar startup after completing undergraduate studies in Iran—and is likely the only one to have built such a company entirely from Europe.

Today, Huma supports nearly 60 million patients across more than 5,000 hospitals, and collaborates with 15 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies, as well as several national governments. Key partners include the governments of Germany, Greece, and the United Kingdom, along with Sanofi, Roche, Pfizer, Novo Nordisk, Stanford, and the NHS. Huma has raised approximately $300 million, bringing its valuation to $1 billion. Since its inception, the company has acquired several American and European healthtech firms. Major institutions such as Sony, Samsung, Hitachi, Bayer, Siemens, AstraZeneca, Unilever, and others are investors in the company. Notable individual investors include the grandson of Sigmund Freud and the renowned actor Will Smith!

Danoosh will share a unique insights into the economic landscape and growth opportunities in Iran, how we can become more collaborative and supportive of one another, where the success of each of us contributes to the success of all of us. This will be complimented by an engaging team-building session and interactive workshop!
