Speaker Biography
Mahmoud Kavir was born in Maybod Yazd, Iran, in 1303 solar year. He received his education from Tehran and Meibod elementary schools, and then Iranshahr High School in Yazd. After teaching at Bushehr high school and conservatory for a while, he left work and life to study under Ostad Khanlari, where he learned from professors such as Parviz Khanleri, Mehrdad Bahar, Saidi Sirjani, and Parviz Verjavand.
Kavir went on to teach at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and Fine Arts, the Higher School of Television and Cinema, and at universities in different countries around the world. He eventually left London to found Ferdowsi School and has since written more than thirty books in the fields of history, culture, poetry, and drama, published in Farsi and English.
Some of Kavir's notable works include "The History of Social Developments," "The History of Humor in Iran," "The History of the Dervish Movement," "On the Wings of Simorgh: Essays about the Shahnameh," and "History of Thought in Iran." He has also written plays and poetry, and his works can be found in various publications and websites.
In addition to his writing, Kavir has also worked in other media and institutions. He has decoded Hafez's fifty sonnets, produced "Paper Legends," a project featuring thirteen stories from the Shahnameh with music, courtship, and puppetry, and has released CDs and DVDs featuring his poetry and literature. He currently teaches Persian language, literature, and history of Iran in England, and performs weekly literary and historical programs on TV.
Kavir is also a co-founder of the Desert Cultural Foundation, which has achieved nearly a thousand hours of classes, dozens of seminars and lectures around the world, holding Iranian rituals, and publishing books.
