Where are the private parts of the Public-Private partnerships in the Iranian Performing Arts Industry?


Born in Tehran, Mehrdad Seyf has lived in the UK since his teens and was educated at the Lycée Francais in Tehran and London. He trained as an actor/director with Theatre de Complicite, Monica Pagneux, Rick Zoltowski and Lorna Marshall. In 1996 he co-founded 30 Bird Productions as Artistic Director, an Anglo-Iranian film and theatre company based in London. Mehrdad’s work is influenced by the relationship between Iranian and European cultures.

His plays include: The Parable of the Blind; Death by Heroine; The Veil; Majnoun and The Persian Revolution. Film credits include: Yalda as part of The City Speaks, a project co produced by BBC Radio Drama and Film London; the documentary but you speak such good English, Executive Producer; Two Obstacles to Marriage, co-written with Claire Summerfield.

Mehrdad was Associate Director for Attic Theatre Company until 2006 and in February 2006 he was Assistant Director to David Farr on The Odyssey at Lyric Hammersmith. Project in development: Story Breaks, working with Choreographer Irven Lewis; Plastic to premier at The Edinburgh festival 2008.

Radio credits: Yalda for Radio 4 afternoon plays, The Virgin for Radio 4 as part of Stages of sound.
