BACKGROUND TO THE EVENING

POST-DINNER PANEL PRESENTATION BY
ROGER NIGHTINGALE & ROBIN GRIFFITHS

ROGER NIGHTINGALE

NightingaleA well known commentator on the global economy, Roger is a frequent guest on TV networks, such as Bloomberg, CNBC, Fox News and CNN. Additionally, he writes regularly for a number of newspapers, magazines and in-house periodicals. Educated at Keele University and University College London (primarily as a mathematician), he worked for the first twenty years of his career at Hoare Govett—starting as a research economist and ending as a member of the main board.

In 1988, he set up an independent consultancy, serving investment clients around the world. He is a non-executive director of a number of financial companies. Roger is a specialist consultant to a wide variety of fund managers.

His outside interests are eclectic. He’s a keen observer (no longer a player) of cricket and rugby and an enthusiastic listener to (not a player of) Mozart. He reads widely, particularly European history; and he collects dictionaries, particularly early editions.

ROBIN GRIFFITHS

GiffithsRobin Griffiths joined Cazenove Capital in 2008 as a Technical Strategist providing strategic input and marketing support, primarily to Private Wealth Management.

For over 30 years Robin has been one of the most respected technical analysts of world stock markets, bonds, currencies and commodities.

He became a technical analyst with WI Carr, based first in Hong Kong and then Tokyo before returning to London. During this time he started to develop his own trading system, analysing stock and market trends. He was then chief technical strategist with HSBC for over 20 years.

His most recent position was as Head of Asset Allocation with Rathbones.

Robin has been an advisor to the ECU fund, a hedge fund using technical analysis to capture movements in currencies since 1985 and latterly to the Rathpeacon fund, a long short equity fund concentrating on the largest 500 companies in the world by market capitalisation.

Robin has a total of 44 years investment experience.

THE PRE-DINNER SPEAKER MICHAEL EADES

EadesMichael has been a partner at Carey Olsen in Guernsey since 1984 and is a Notary Public. He was called to the English Bar in 1980 and qualified as a Guernsey Advocate the following year.

Michael regularly advises local fiduciaries and high net worth individuals wishing to establish structures in Guernsey. A particular area of interest is advising upon and acting as trustee of charitable trusts.

Michael is a Member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists, a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is an Honorary Member of the Association of Fellows and Legal Scholars of the Centre for International Legal Studies. He is a former Chairman of the Guernsey Bar Council. A further area of speciality is advising upon and acting as a director for captive insurance companies.
